When I started this piece, I began filling the entire surface, frame and all, with purple paint. As I waited for it to dry, I overheard on the television that there had been apparition of the Virgin Mary on, I believe, a bagel. That was the springboard for a series of images about divine apparitions, mediums/soothsayers (the "Al Gores" of the world), and end of times paranoia (the clock is ticking . . . ). Of course, in my mind, with references to Catholicism, apparitions, the very possible need for divine interventions, the painting seemed incomplete without a reference to the debacles of recent times, including those of none other than Mr. Blair. Reflecting upon the finished piece, I (and here goes my Catholic flashbacks), I can not help thinking about different states of mind and being, including purgatory, hell and mental paradise.
